Q & A

What are your breeding goals?

Ethical breeding means embracing a responsibility that touches every aspect of the animals' lives—from genetic health and proper care to preserving the cultural and historical significance of the breed. It’s a journey of continuous improvement, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the unique qualities and companionship that a well-bred animal offers. Any litter I bred would be done thoughtfully and with the mission to improve the breed for the future. Temperament, health, and structure are of upmost importance to me. On a personal level, for me this also means preserving the working spirit of the Samoyed, which is why the pack all do sports. A Samoyed is a working breed, to not celebrate and preserve that to me is a travesty.

Why does the pack not look as white as the dogs I see on social media?

This comes back to my beliefs on raising the pack. They are first and foremost to me, dogs who are family members. They live happy dog lives. This involves mud enjoyment for most of them. The lifespan of a dog is already so short, I refuse to further limit it by not allowing them to act like dogs for the sake of social media posts or being the starkest white in the ring. If you look through the gallery, you will notice varying degrees of whiteness. The pack get brushed and bathed on a very regular basis. When they're showing they are always freshly bathed. It takes hours to groom each one, but only five minutes for them to make themselves look like they've never seen a tub before. It's not realistic to bathe them every day (though Duke would love that!), so sometimes between baths they may look more creme or off-white than they do coming straight out of bath day.

Will I get to pick my own puppy out?

Probably not, ethical breeders take the time to match puppies to buyers because it’s not just about making a sale—it’s about ensuring the long-term welfare of the animal and the satisfaction of the family living with them. The breeder spends much more time with the puppies than you and knows them as individuals. A quick visit to meet the puppies or just pictures is not going to give you a true impression of the puppies' personalities or needs. An ethical breeder painstakingly makes sure that you go home not necessary with your favorite puppy, but rather the puppy who fits your needs and lifestyle the best. Often the most outgoing puppy in a litter or the one that looks slightly different than the others is the one everyone else also wants too. But that puppy is not an equally good match for everyone that wants it. In the event an ethical breeder thinks more than one puppy would be a good match, you might be asked for your preference between certain ones, but don't expect that as part of the process. Whatever puppy you go home with will be the best puppy ever in your mind very quickly.

Where does the pack live?

They live in a house with us. They have a sizeable yard they decide to spend most days in when the weather isn't hot. They play with toys, watch tv, sit on the couch, and sleep in our bed when they want.

Do I really need a fence to have one?

If you have a yard, yes it should be fenced for them to safely enjoy it off leash. A 5-6ft fence is generally what is recommended as this breed are known escape artists and wanderers. Remember, their origin was with nomadic tribes. This is not a breed I would ever feel comfortable allowing off leash in an unfenced location. It only takes a moment for them to be gone forever.

Why are waitlists so long? Why isn't the cost the same thing as I saw on Craigslist for puppies?

Waitlists reflect ethical breeder's commitment to quality and ethical breeding practices. Every puppy produced is the result of careful planning, thorough health testing, and a nurturing environment. This process naturally limits the number of puppies available, as we prioritize the long-term health and well-being of each animal over rapid production. Regarding the cost, ethical breeding involves significant investments in veterinary care, genetic screening, proper nutrition, and early socialization. Puppies offered at much lower prices—such as those on Craigslist—often lack these safeguards, which can compromise their overall health and temperament. These are BYBs, scams, and mills you are seeing.
